Index Team Meets Tongaat Huletts Developments
Early on a Monday morning, our team gathered outside Tongaat Huletts Developments' offices in Umhlanga to spend a morning investigating the new and exciting property prospects offered by the group.
Bridge City
Soo Meyer, of THD guided our tour on the first stop to Bridge City, a multi-billion Rand mixed use town centre and business estate development that has resulted from a successful joint venture between the eThekwini Municipality and Tongaat Hulett.
Bridge City is located 17km north of Durban with easy access to the N2 Freeway and forms the nucleus of the R20 billion GO!Durban Intergrated Rapid Public Transport Network.
Bridge City offers opportunities to acquire mixed-use retail, residential and light industrial fully serviced and platformed sites from just over 2,000m2 up to more than 20,000m2 for development within the framework of the precinct. The sites lie adjacent to the massive Bridge City Shopping Centre, a new 500 bed regional hospitaland the new and impressive Regional Magistrates Courts.
Cornubia Business Estate
The next stop for the group was the brand new Cornubia Business Estate adjacent to the almost complete Cornubia Shopping Centre.
The precinct forms part of the 1,200 hectare mixed use Cornubia development, which lies adjacent to Mount Edgecombe and the uMhlanga Ridge Town Centre close to the major transport hubs and N2 freeway. The area will soon be linked to the uMhlanga Ridge Town Centre and Gateway precinct via a new bridge over the N2 which is currently under construction.
Varied opportunities exist for the discerning investor or major property developer to acquire large mixed use sites in and around the Cornubia New Town Centre and Business Hub!
uMhlanga
We continued to the last two remaining sites in uMhlanga Ridge offering a bold position in the heart of the town centre with up to 35,000m2 of bulk over the two sites. The sites offer iconic opportunities for retail, commercial and residential development with impressive inland and sea views as well as excellent access to the N2 freeway and M4 beach road.
These two remaining sites will be snapped up soon!
Sibaya
Next up was a brief overview of the rapidly developing Sibaya precinct, which can be seen quickly developing alongside the M4 highway, only 4km north of uMhlanga and 7km from the King Shaka International Airport. The development consists of over 1,000 hectares of coastal landscape with 600 hectares reserved for natural coastal forest and green areas.
Opportunities exist for large development sites to be acquired for mixed use, residential, retirement and commercial development.
The trip around the Tongaat Huletts Developments certainly left us with no doubt that Durban is growing at a phenomenal rate and is currently offering developers with unprecedented opportunities to take part in new and exciting markets, and we would like to thank Soo for her time spent with us!
Please do not hesitate to contact the Index Property Solutions Team for more information on these and other sites in our portfolio.
